A very wet start to Travel Wise
Week
Today was a very wet day. It was also the start of Travelwise week. Ms Derhamy started a record of those who walk, scooter, bike and
carpool to school and will be handing out certificates at the end of the week. We
shared news of a very busy weekend in Auckland – the St Patrick’s Day parade,
Volvo Ocean Race, Taylor Swift Concert and Round the Bays were all going on
this past weekend. Some of us were in the thick of it.
Isaiah brought in a mysterious green bottle full of sticky
icky goo and sticks poking out of it. He explained that the solution was a
potent mixture of sugar, water and food colouring and that it was an experiment
to grow sugar crystals. We will watch it over the next few days to see if the crystals
grow any bigger. Perhaps it will grow as big as the ones in the picture below.
Here is a link to grow your own sugar crystals. For writing we got up to know Mr Twit a little better. We brainstormed and shared adjectives to describe Mr Twit inside and out, and then analysed Roald Dahl’s description of Mr Twit.
We had a treat and did the Booster Box after morning tea. When we do the booster box everyone is given the name of another student in the class. After spending a couple of minutes thinking of what we appreciate about this other person we take turns describing them before saying who they are. This makes us all feel very special.
Our photographers for the last three school days have been Charlie,
Georgia H, and Katie.

Hi Rm 13, I love the sugar crystal experiments you are doing, can you eat them when they are full grown :-) ??? Charlie's big sister, Hannah is doing the same one at Baradene and she is in year 7.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work with the blog.
