Atlas - Book of Maps or Greek God?
This week in reading we learnt that an atlas is a book of maps. Atlas is also the name of a titan (old Greek god) who was condemned (punished) to hold up the heavens on his shoulders for all time. Ms Derhamy gave us a challenge – We had to investigate how to use an Atlas to locate different countries and continents. We discovered three different ways to locate a specific country in an Atlas: read the heading at the top of each map; look in the index at the back of the Atlas; and look at the contents page at the front of the atlas.
