Highlights of Week 9

§  The playground is taking on a new look, they have moved the Spinning Twister closer to the flying fox.

§  The Seniors have gone to Wellington for the week and will be coming back today. Cal, Alfie and Barty have brothers that have gone.

§  Josef bought an indoor palm for our class. It is so tropical and cheerful. We are planning to all take turns watering it.

§  March was National Book Month. To celebrate we have made bookmarks featuring our favourite book, characters and/or author. They are now hanging in the classroom so please come and check them out.

§  We have now got a copy of the finalist books from the NZ Post  Book Awards. They are displayed at the back of classroom. We can read them during SSR and anytime we finish our work.

Chilling out in the library

Good readers think before they read.

We had to put pictures from the book “Where the Forest meets the Seas” into order and this was really hard because we hadn’t read the book yet. From this activity we learnt that we can make predictions about what a story is about using our prior knowledge.

Into the Deep

We saw a video of James Cameron. Last Monday (26th March 2012) James Cameron challenged the deep by going to the bottom of the sea in a small submarine. The further he got to the bottom of the ocean floor the greater the pressure. The submarine got squished because of the sea pressure coming onto it. The submarine was green and called “The Challenger”. Here is a link to the video and news article.

Me Posters and Time

Here are some photos of us working on our ME posters, and doing a test on our Time unit that Ms Marra taught us.
