Kelly Tarltons

On Monday 28th of May all the year 4’s had a sleep over at Kelly Tarltons. There was a giant squid in a pot – glass cabinet – it was dead.

First Steve told us the story of how Scot’s Base in the Antarctica got its name. We then walked through a model of the hut. It was like a museum and had lots of the old things that they used in those days. It felt a little bit creepy.

Next we went to Stingray bay. Darren jumped into the tank with the Stingrays and Halibut. He told us that the stingray’s sting was the most painful in the world but that they were not aggressive and did not sting unless they felt threatened. He guided the stingrays to the side of the tank so we could observe them eating. Lots of kids got splashed.

Some people fed the fish. Some people did not want to because the fish food was slimy and smelly. The fish food was a mixture of fish guts, heads and tails.

Everybody got to do the Ice Challenge. “It is freezing” the boys screamed. The girls were able to keep their hand in longer than most of the boys. Alexei was able to keep his hand in for a very long time. In fact he did not want to take his hand out at the end.

Our trip was so exciting. It was cool sleeping with the fishes and sharks. We were so exhausted after the sleepover. Vicky, Amanda Z and Chelsea say that “It took us a week to recover but it was worth it.”
